The Fondue Set cannot wait to perform tasty vintage covers at the Gemco Jazz on the Village Green on Saturday, February 21. The Fondue Set will close out the Gemco Jazz on the Village Green concert series, which has been running every Saturday afternoon at the Havelock North Domain from 4 to 6pm. The members of the band are Caitlin Smith (vocalist, percussionist voice and songwriter coach), guitarists Steve Gerrish and Nigel Gavin and drummer Jason Orme. Caitlin says the set list will be centred around the group’s 2004 recording, Down to the Rind, at Lake Taupo’s Arts Festival. Released in 2013, the album was originally recorded onto a minidisc, which gathered dust in Caitlin’s desk for seven years before being pressed into an album. Founded in 1997, each of the Auckland band’s four members are also accomplished jazz soloists and have performed as part of other line-ups on the national and international Jazz festival circuits. Caitlin describes The Fondue Set’s sound as folk Jazz exotica. In addition to the tracks on the album the band will be busting out some Jason Isbell (Drive By Truckers), Bo Diddley, Tim Buckley, Rolling Stones, David Bowie and Steely Dan – “I get excited just thinking about itâ€, says Caitlin “What I enjoy the most about performing is having the opportunity to share the stories behind some of these great masterpieces. As a front woman it’s all about performing a really great song to the best of my abilities. A great song is delicious and nutritious; its made up of strong bones and lots of calcium.†The Fondue Set will be performing at Gemco Jazz on the Village Green on Saturday, February 21 at Havelock North Domain from 4pm to 6pm.
