Look up at the black
sky
rain falls like stars
crashing straight into wide open eyes
sci-fi warp speed movie credits
bouncing off my cheeks and splashing into the hot pools around us
couples canoodle and kids dive bomb into cooler containers
back-lit rain melds with steam
to furnish this heated hyper-sensory stage set
all naked flesh and liquids
something gets thrown out of a passing car
flies over the fence into the hottest pool.
curious
the Yoga guy, who’s been whistling along with an easy listening Radio station,
stops his stretches
takes his tattoos to the far end of the water to fish out the intruder
– a bag of frozen veggies
we watch circles and arrows
a reflected liquid light show
dance on the water’s surface like laughter
and naked, swim through the piping hot like a flashback to our ancestor’s primordial soup
born of the same cellular hot pot
skin dissolves into the warm
all focus lost from mind and eye
limbs weightless
I become baby-like on your shoulder
carried by the body’s inflation and fat
semi flaccid, semi floating
too hot to stand anymore
we partially withdraw and sit with cool rain splashing gently
on our backs, legs submerged
as a green bean
now thawed and oblivious
floats past
